🌈 Comp Colors

Comp Colors is an After Effects script that sets the background color of all the comps you select in the Project Panel, or every comp in your project if you select no comps.

Comp Colors was released in September 2024, exclusively to our newsletter subscribers. It will be publicly available, right here on this page, 3-4 months later. Click here to subscribe to our newsletter if you want early access to our next freebie.

Installation

Comp Colors runs as a ScriptUI Panel with a button if you install it like this:

Quit After Effects if it is running. Move the file Comp Colors.jsxbin to your ScriptUI Panels folder, which is located here:

Windows: Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects (version)\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels

Mac OS: Applications/Adobe After Effects (version)/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels

Launch After Effects and click Window > Comp Colors.

You can also run Comp Colors straight from the Scripts folder, or from a launcher utility like KBar, and in both those cases it’ll just do it’s stuff with no panel.

Usage

Select one or more comps, run the script, pick a color, click OK.

Tips + FAQ

If you hold the Shift key while you're using the eyedropper, you can sample colors from outside of the After Effects UI.

Comp Colors only affects selected comps. If you select a folder with comps inside it but don't select those comps themselves, they won't be changed.
